Longines watches have their origins in 1832 in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, when Auguste Agassiz founded a watchmaking workshop with two other partners. This small workshop, known as Agassiz & Compagnie, began producing pocket watches, quickly establishing itself in the Swiss market thanks to the quality and precision of its products.

Birth of the Longines brand

In 1867, Longines built its first factory, named Les Longines (which means “the long meadows” in French), from where its name originates. In the same year, they developed their first in-house movement, the calibre 20A, which won a medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition. This innovation allowed Longines to have complete control over its production, ensuring superior quality and solidifying its reputation as a prestigious brand.

Achievements and international fame

Longines’ fame grew rapidly:

• In 1889, the brand registered its iconic winged hourglass logo, becoming the oldest watch brand with a registered logo still in use.
• In 1912, Longines pioneered the use of electromechanical devices for measuring sporting events, consolidating its reputation in the field of precision timing and establishing itself as the official timekeeper of numerous international sports events.

Over the years, Longines has continued to innovate, launching iconic collections like the Longines Master Collection and the HydroConquest, which combine Swiss precision with elegant designs.
