Omega watches had their origins in 1848 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, when Louis Brandt, a young watchmaker, established a small workshop. Initially, Brandt assembled pocket watches using components supplied by local artisans and distributed his creations mainly in European markets. After his death, his sons, Louis-Paul and César Brandt, expanded the business and implemented significant advances in watchmaking.
The birth of the Omega brand
In 1894, the Brandt brothers introduced a system of production with interchangeable parts, a revolutionary innovation for the time. They developed a movement called the Omega caliber, which became so recognized and emblematic that in 1903, they decided to rename the company Omega Watch Co. From that moment on, Omega became associated with precision and excellence in watchmaking.
Global recognition and outstanding achievements
Omega quickly achieved international recognition thanks to milestones such as:
- In 1932, it became the first brand selected as the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games, a role it has fulfilled in multiple editions of this event.
- In 1969, the Omega Speedmaster made history by becoming the first watch to reach the Moon, being used by the astronauts of the Apollo 11 mission. This achievement gave it unparalleled prestige and a prominent place in the history of space exploration.
Innovation and high-end watchmaking
Throughout its history, Omega has maintained an innovative spirit, developing technologies such as the Co-Axial movement in 1999, which improved accuracy and reduced the need for maintenance. Its most iconic collections, such as the Speedmaster, Seamaster, and Constellation, have strengthened its reputation in the luxury and high-end watchmaking industry.
Today, Omega is one of the most prestigious and recognized watch brands globally, standing out for its precision, quality, and a historical legacy that sets it apart.
