Romantic Origins and Foundation
The story of Edox begins in 1884 when Swiss watchmaker Christian Ruefli-Flury created a pocket watch to celebrate his wife Pauline’s 25th anniversary. Impressed by its beauty, Pauline convinced Christian to establish his own manufacture in Biel/Bienne, the cradle of Swiss watchmaking. The name “Edox,” derived from ancient Greek meaning “measuring the time,” and its symbol —a sand clock designed in 1900— reflected its commitment to the precise measurement of time.
