These watches were designed to offer Swiss quality at a more accessible price, making them popular among those who wanted an elegant chronograph without the high cost associated with more exclusive brands.

Production and features

The standout feature of Chronographe Suisse was its lightweight design and extremely thin case, commonly referred to as “onion skin” for its delicacy. Many of these watches included complications like tachymeter and telemeter scales, allowing for speed and distance measurements. The dials had a clean and functional design, available in various colors, while the movements were supplied by renowned manufacturers such as Valjoux, Landeron, and Venus. These pieces ensured reliable accuracy and were carefully assembled, despite being considered more affordable options.

Expansion and decline

During the 1950s and 1960s, these chronographs were widely exported, especially to Europe and Latin America, and became a symbol of accessible luxury. However, with the arrival of the quartz revolution in the 1970s, the demand for mechanical watches drastically decreased. The production of Chronographe Suisse diminished and eventually disappeared from the market.
