Acquisition by Miguel Rodríguez and brand evolution

In 1984, Festina was acquired by Spanish entrepreneur Miguel Rodríguez, who decided to move the company’s headquarters to Barcelona, Spain. This acquisition marked a new chapter in Festina’s history, giving it a growth boost and a renewed focus on design and international expansion. Rodríguez, also the owner of the Lotus brand, merged both brands into the Festina-Lotus Group, helping the company consolidate its presence in the European market and expand globally.

Focus on quality and affordability

Festina was known for offering good quality watches at affordable prices, combining Swiss technology with modern European design. This approach allowed it to compete in the mid-range watch market, standing out for its variety of styles and ability to adapt to trends. In the 1990s and 2000s, Festina became known for its sporty and elegant watches, especially in the realm of chronographs.

Sponsorship in cycling and international recognition

The Festina brand also partnered with cycling, sponsoring the Festina team in the Tour de France and other major competitions from the late 80s to the 90s. This cycling association strengthened Festina’s identity as a sports brand and increased its international visibility. Although the team disbanded in 2001, Festina’s connection with the sports world remains, and continues to be one of its distinguishing features.
