The story of Universal Genève began in 1894 in Le Locle, Switzerland, when watchmakers Ulysse Perret and Numa-Emile Descombes founded a company under the name Universal Watch. From the beginning, the company stood out for its focus on precision and the manufacture of complete wristwatches. In the early decades of the 20th century, Universal Watch specialized in high-quality chronographs and became one of the first brands to design chronograph movements specifically for wristwatches. During the 1930s, Universal Genève gained prominence with the release of iconic models such as the Compax and the Tri-Compax. The brand was popular among celebrities and prominent figures, but faced challenges during the quartz crisis of the 1970s.
