The beginnings of TAG Heuer
The TAG Heuer brand, initially known as Heuer, dates back to 1860 with the opening of Edouard Heuer’s watchmaking workshop in Saint-Imier (Switzerland). Since its founding, the company has been distinguished by its commitment to accuracy and technological advances. A key milestone occurred in 1887 when Heuer patented the oscillating pinion system – pioneering technology that remains part of contemporary chronographs today.
Passion for Motorsports and Competition
In the 20th century, the brand established itself as a specialist in sports measurement instruments. In 1916, it revolutionized the sector with the Micrograph: the first mechanical chronograph capable of recording hundredths of a second, positioning itself as a key ally in speed sports and motor competitions.
During the 1930s-1940s, its precision devices were integrated into racing car dashboards. Later, in the 1950s-1960s, it launched iconic pieces such as the Autavia and the Carrera, created for professional pilots and motor enthusiasts.
Transformation under the name TAG Heuer
In 1985, the company merged with the Techniques d’Avant Garde (TAG) group, adopting its current name. This alliance merged innovative techniques with Swiss know-how. Later, it developed creations such as the Mikrotimer Flying 1000 (2011), capable of measuring thousandths of a second, redefining the limits of chronometry.
Legacy and Present
Today, TAG Heuer continues to be a pioneer in elite technical watchmaking. Models like the Monaco (with its iconic square case), the Aquaracer (specialized in water sports), and the Connected (digital integration) exemplify its balance between craftsmanship heritage and innovation. Its collaborations with global sports events and high-profile ambassadors reinforce its connection to competitive excellence.
A synonym of technological audacity and Swiss tradition, TAG Heuer continues to lead the evolution of sophisticated watchmaking.
