Omega’s history begins in 1848 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, when Louis Brandt, a young and talented watchmaker, established a small workshop dedicated to assembling pocket watches. In the beginning, he used components from various local suppliers and sold his creations primarily in Europe. After his passing, his sons, Louis-Paul and César Brandt, took over the business, modernizing its production and laying the foundation for what would become one of the most prestigious Swiss watchmaking firms.
The birth of Omega as a brand
In 1894, the Brandt brothers revolutionized the industry by developing a production system with interchangeable parts, an innovation that simplified repairs and ensured greater precision. During this process, they created the Omega caliber, a mechanism so successful that in 1903 they decided to rename the company as Omega Watch Co.. Since then, Omega has established itself as a benchmark in precision and watchmaking excellence.
Worldwide recognition and historical milestones
Throughout its history, Omega has achieved significant milestones that have positioned it as a leading brand:
- In 1932, Omega was selected as the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games, a role it has played in numerous editions of the event, consolidating its prestige in the world of sports.
- In 1969, the iconic Omega Speedmaster became the first watch on the Moon when the Apollo 11 astronauts wore it on the historic space mission. This milestone gave Omega a unique status in the watchmaking industry.
Innovation and consolidation in high watchmaking
Over the years, Omega has continued its technological evolution, launching in 1999 the revolutionary Co-Axial movement, which improved precision, reduced wear on the mechanisms, increased longevity, and decreased the need for frequent maintenance.
Iconic models such as the Speedmaster, Seamaster, and Constellation have reinforced Omega’s identity in the luxury watch segment. Its constant pursuit of perfection and innovation has kept it as one of the most influential brands in the industry.
Today, Omega is globally recognized for its precision, quality, and legacy, combining tradition and innovation to continue marking time with excellence.
