Visionary Origins
The brand IWC (International Watch Company) was born in 1868 in the city of Schaffhausen, Switzerland, thanks to the vision of the American watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones. Jones, who had previously worked as a director at E. Howard & Co. in Boston, aimed to combine Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship with modern technologies for high-quality mass production. He chose Schaffhausen for its proximity to the Rhine River, which allowed harnessing hydroelectric power for industrial machinery. Thus, IWC became one of the first watch manufactures in northeastern Switzerland.

Innovation and Quality
Since its inception, IWC stood out for creating high-precision movements and functional designs. By the late 19th century, they introduced pocket watches with highly complicated movements, such as minute repeaters and perpetual calendars. In the 1930s, the brand ventured into the production of pilot watches, designed to meet the demands of aviators. Models like the Mark XI, introduced in 1948, became icons for their durability and precision.

Iconic Collections
Throughout the 20th century, IWC solidified its reputation with legendary collections like the Portugieser, created in 1939, and the Ingenieur, launched in 1955 with antimagnetic technology. In 1967, with the Aquatimer model, they entered the field of diving watches. During the 1970s, while other brands faced difficulties due to the quartz crisis, IWC bet on mechanical innovation, standing out for complications like the tourbillon and luxury watches.
