Longines beginnings
The Longines manufacture was established in 1832 in Saint-Imier (Switzerland), as the result of the initiative of Auguste Agassiz, who founded a small watchmaking workshop with two partners. Under the name Agassiz & Compagnie, they focused on producing pocket chronometers, standing out for their precision and exquisite craftsmanship within the rigorous Swiss watchmaking ecosystem.

Forging an emblematic identity
In 1867, the company achieved a fundamental milestone with the opening of its first production plant, named Les Longines (French for “the long meadows”), which definitively gave the brand its name. That year, they introduced their inaugural calibre, the 20A, awarded at the Universal Exhibition in Paris.

From then on, they started legally protecting their developments, and in 1889 they established their corporate symbol of the winged hourglass, positioning themselves as the watchmaker with the oldest active registered logo.

Mastery in precision and historic partnerships
Since its foundation, Longines has stood out as a leader in athletic timing and aeronautics. In 1912, they set a precedent by using electro-technical mechanisms to time sports events, a disruptive innovation for its time.

They worked closely with aviation pioneers, developing instruments for long-distance flights. A paradigmatic model is the Longines Lindbergh Hour Angle, created in 1931 in collaboration with the legendary pilot Charles Lindbergh after his non-stop transatlantic flight.
